Of lawn prints and summer suiting

One of the most captivating thing about Karachi, or rather in Pakistan in general, were the simply amazing lawn prints. To be honest, when I landed on Karachi's soil, I was not the most fashionably-educated girl around, which some people might find amazing and unbelievable.

But that's the truth of the matter: for me, my wardrobe had to be comfortable and easy. That's it. There were no fancy capris, nor any fancy expensive branded lawn prints ...nothing. Just plain cotton shalwar kameez, or something equally comforting in Georgette. All dresses would be of the same style... Front open, with a coat collar, and three quarter sleeves. It wasn't that I was not fashionable, it was just the simple reason that I was lazy and couldn't really be bothered with standing at the tailors and discussing designs for hours on end.

However, it was when I visited the lawn houses in person, and saw the designs with my own eyes was that I was completely blown away...The geometric designs, the floral play of colours and shades, was simply breathtakingly beautiful.

I still remember being left speechless to think that there was still this much sense of aesthetics and play of colours/designs prevailing among the designers and the don'ers...How could people who do have such a beautiful sense of balance, colour, and sensuous designs to say the least, not been able to combine it within their daily life? Why had we gotten to the point where we accepted wearing such colours and designs of beauty while everything around us lay in disarray and in rubbish?

For me, this contrast of how people dressed themselves vs their obliviousness to their surrounding was a puzzling occurrence... but something very captivating too. It was like a sort of re-assurance, that even if I was unable to express myself in any way without getting undue attention, it was by choosing and mulling and appreciating the flow of colours and designs of my clothes.

PS: I must add, that today... the fashion sense of the common garments on the streets has increased drastically. Not only in terms of designs but also in terms of smart stitching designs. You can definitely consider me to be the biggest fan of Ego!
